Hear me read it

A halo of rope around my neck,
Is the closest to heaven, that I'll ever get.

Really like the imagery and the shortness of this one: had I not come to read it here, I could have easily taken it for some old, cynical proverb.
One little point - the comma at the end of the first line feels a bit like a hiccup in the flow. Other than that, just bravo.

Smiles, thank you so much! It might help if you hear how I intended it to be read here. There is a little pause there because if there wasn't it would just be one sentence, with no pauses to leave time for contemplation.

This is very sad. I'm surprised, the piece itself is simple (flows well) and short. I never got really short poems like haiku, but anything done a certain way can get the point across to anyone. Good job. ^^

nn....yes! :D I've only added 9 words to the dictionary though, I am too lazy to go through all the archives and find the words I made up before I started the website x_x but as I come across them I add them in, like Frankensteined. [link]

It is an amazing writer who can summarize such sorrow and pain within such a brief piece. The amount of care put into the selection of each word... it is stunning.
This was beautiful, even in all its tragedy. I was breathless, because while reading it, I felt pressure around my neck. It was amazing to experience... and it reminded me how painfully I can relate.
Just a wonderful job. :rose:

This comment really made me so so happy when I read it (I didn't have time to reply before now, I am so sorry!). So I want to thank you so much for commenting.

Obviously this is a very personal piece, but it is also one of the ones I'm most proud of.. I've always felt that, despite its brevity, that this was a powerful and truthful piece that expressed my experience in that moment really well. It's been amazing this week having people comment on it and like it.

Practice makes... better than before. (I can't say perfect or people will think that I am saying I am perfect. I'm not! haha). Remember I'm 25 and I have poems in my archives from when I was ten years old.

Wow, there's so much power in these sixteen words. I know that pretty much every comment before me says the same thing, but I was just so struck by it, I had to say something. I read it, took a moment, and re-read it, and it has that same pit-in-your-gut effect. Beautiful job.

Thank you so much Kazul, this has had some amazing positive attention this week but every comment made me smile and happy nonetheless because this is one of my favourite works. It feels like the perfect expression of how I felt in that moment and because of that I'm very proud of it...

Well then, I'm happy that my comment was more encouraging than annoying! :) I'm sorry that you were feeling this way, but it is so, well, near-perfect. I keep scrolling back to re-read it because it's so moving.

Although only two lines, it has a huge impact. Sometimes, less is more. Dark and very symbolic was the feeling that I got from this piece. Instant fav.

Nods, thank you so much. I am very very proud of this piece. Despite its length. I have often thought about working it into something else but it doesnt go with anything else, this, in its shortness, is the perfect expression of how i felt at that time. So unedited it stays.

Simply written and simply a masterpiece. With only a few words a chill can be brought to anyone's spine. The near but not exact rhyming add more to the feeling of a mind in a dark place. An amazing piece.
